- It's not that old, but not everyone keeps all old files!

- I found a copy on my hard drive -- enjoy

- Amiga 500 Super Agnus Modification
- ----------------------------------
-
- Installing the Super Agnus (8372A) in the Amiga 500, is a very straight-
- forward procedure. The only difficult aspect is the removal of the old Fat
- Agnus (8370) if you do not have the proper chip extraction tool. If you do not
- have a PLLC chip extractor, remove the motherboard entirely from the case. If
- you have an extractor, remove the old Agnus now. If not, follow the
- instructions in the next two paragraphs.
- Remove the top of the plastic case from the A500. Unplug the keyboard from
- the A500 motherboard. Note which way the keyboard is plugged in! If the
- keyboard is reconnected improperly, damage will result to the A500 and/or
- keyboard. Remove the top metal sheild and floppy drive. Next remove the
- motherboard from the bottom of the A500 shell. Finally, remove the bottom
- metal sheild from the motherboard itself.
- Once the motherboard is entirely accessable, turn it over, and locate the
- two holes located beneath the Agnus socket. Take a small flatblade
- screwdriver, and verify that it will fit easily through the holes. Now take
- the motherboard, and place it in your lap. Put the small screwdriver through
- the holes, and give it a light blow with a hard object. Slowly tap the
- screwdriver until the Agnus falls free. Replace the bottom sheild and
- motherboard.
- Now insert the Super Agnus into the socket. Note the dimple in the middle
- of one end of the Agnus. This denotes the location of pin one, which is also
- silkscreened on the motherboard. Press firmly down onto the Agnus, until it is
- well seated in the socket.
- Next, locate JP2 on the motherboard. It is located between the 68000 and
- the ROM (see the IFF picture included in this archive). Cut the trace
- connecting the two bottom pads. Now solder a bridge across the top two pads.
- Now the trace connected to pin 32 on the CNX connector must be cut. Locate the
- plated hole and trace show in the enclosed picture. Cut this trace, or cut pin
- 32 off (16th pin up, on bottom row).
- Reconnect the entire system and boot Workbench 1.3. You should see all
- your installed RAM, on the Workbench screen. You can verify that the system
- see's the internal RAM as CHIP memory by using the AVAIL command in the CLI.

- I have not done the patch on an Amiga500 and so can not guarantee that it will
- work.
